Description
Part of the Nettipattam that is worn by an elephant in a temple. Nettipattam is an important ornament worn by elephants during festivals in Kerala. Legend has it that the Nettipattam was designed by Lord Brahma. And Iravath, the white elephant of Lord Indra, was the first lucky elephant to wear it. The caparison, which is part of Hindu astrological art, represents the entire pantheon of gods in Hinduism.
Now a days you get these as wall hangings. More on this here: http://joezachs.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-temple-elephant.html

A VERY well-done and expressive presentation of this elephant. I get the distinct impression that the elephant has closed it's eyes in depressive defeat...but I think that of all elephants or wild animals who are in captivity and must perform. However...I know there are wonderful owners who treat their elephants very humanely and give them as much love as it is possible for a human to give an elephant. Just always wish they were free. Please forgive me expressing my thoughts, Joe. It is in no way a reflection whatsoever upon your great photograph!! Bravo on your great image!!! ;0)) F/V

wonderful composition. Really captured those great textures of the elephants skin and the colored headdress adds just the right amount of color to the image. Well done -- Dan
